In all the ups and downs over the past year, it has been brought to my attention that I have failed to keep up with our website and blog. Thus, I have updated the site and am going to share some of the wonderful changes being made around the garage.
As time goes on, we learn and grow like every other business. The most important thing we learned in the past year, is that we are strong enough to withstand a lot of hardships. From increases in taxes, insurances, utilities and supplies, to major equipment breaking down. (Of course, everything breaks right after the warranty runs out.) We have our wonderful customers and awesome staff to thank for keeping us standing. We are proud to say, that even with all the unexpected costs, we did not raise our hourly rate. We remain at the low cost of $65/hr.
In addition, vehicles are changing each and every year. This means new tools and equipment are required to properly diagnose and repair newer vehicles. This was a must for our shop, since we pride ourselves on being able to fix anything. Bill is known to be the best around at fixing electrical issues. I can count on one hand the number of vehicles in the past 7 years that Bill couldn't figure out. This is aggravating for the customer, but trust me when I say, nobody is more frustrated than him. For this reason, we recently purchased the biggest and best diagnostic machine Snap On had to offer. This baby is a beauty.......but very costly. Unfortunately, we did have to raise our diagnostic fees from $39.95 to $59.95. This is still lower than other shops, plus it will increase accuracy and decrease the amount of time we need to keep a customer's vehicle.
This week, we received the latest and greatest change.......a request from a big company to do their fleet vehicles. All the paperwork was filled out yesterday, so hopefully we will be adding them to our customer base soon. The only problem with that is, we need more help. I am putting an ad out there for another mechanic, but if you are reading this and know of a good mechanic looking for a job, please have them give us a call. We pay based on skill and experience, work only Monday through Friday and love to keep it light in the workplace. We may be busy and our guys do work hard, but we keep it fun and make sure our employees are well taken care of.
